The Mysterious Kundalini: More about Kundalini

Manastvam Vyoma tvam Marudasi Marutsarathirasi,

Tvamapastvam Bhumistvayi parinatayam nahi param,

Tvameva Svatmanam parinamayitum visvavapusha

Chidanandakaram haramahishi-bhavena bibhrushe.

I am afraid of the crowd waiting in the ques, hitting their heads on the walls of the temples, churches and gurudwaras for their turn to "see" the God, I am afraid of the crowd searching their pockets for coins to donate to God, I am afraid of the crowd who only tend to discuss whether Allah or Bhagwan or Jesus is superior, I am afraid of the crowd discussing about God all the time and knowing nothing, I am afraid of the crowd which is afraid of God, I am afraid of every nonsense activity going on around me.

Kundalini, the serpent power or mystic fire, is the primordial energy or Sakti that lies dormant or sleeping in the Muladhara Chakra, the centre of the body. It is called the serpentine or annular power on account of serpentine form. It is an electric fiery occult power, the great pristine force which underlies all organic and inorganic matter.



Kundalini is the cosmic power in individual bodies. It is not a material force like electricity, magnetism, centripetal or centrifugal force. It is a spiritual potential Sakti or cosmic power. In reality it has no form. The Sthula Buddhi and mind have to follow a particular form in the beginning stage. From this gross form, one can easily, understand the subtle formless Kundalini. Prana, Ahamkara, Buddhi, Indriyas, mind, five gross elements, nerves are all the products of Kundalini.



It is the coiled-up, sleeping Divine Sakti that lies dormant in all beings. You have seen in the Muladhara Chakra that there is Svayambhu Linga. The head of the Linga is the space where Sushumna Nadi is attached to the Kanda. This mysterious Kundalini lies face downwards at the mouth of Sushumna Nadi on the head of Svayambhu Linga. It has three and a half coils like a serpent. When it is awakened, it makes a hissing sound like that of a serpent beaten with a stick, and proceeds to the other Chakra through the Brahma Nadi, which is also called Chitra Nadi within Sushumna. Hence Kundalini is also called Bhujangini, serpent power. The three coils represent the three Gunas of Prakriti: Sattva, Rajas and Tamas, and the half represents the Vikritis, the modification of Prakriti.



Kundalini is the Goddess of speech and is praised by all. She Herself, when awakened by the Yogin, achieves for him the illumination. It is She who gives Mukti and Jnana for She is Herself that. She is also called Sarasvati, as She is the form of Sabda Brahman. She is the source of all Knowledge and Bliss. She is pure consciousness itself. She is Brahman. She is Prana Sakti, the Supreme Force, the Mother of Prana, Agni, Bindu, and Nada. It is by this Sakti that the world exists. Creation, preservation and dissolution are in Her. Only by her Sakti the world is kept up. It is through Her Sakti on subtle Prana, Nada is produced. While you utter a continuous sound or chant Dirgha Pranava ! (OM), you will distinctly feel that the real vibration starts from the Muladhara Chakra. Through the vibration of this Nada, all the parts of the body function. She maintains the individual soul through the subtle Prana. In every kind of Sadhana the Goddess Kundalini is the object of worship in some form or the other.



Kundalini has connection with subtle Prana. Subtle Prana has connection with the subtle Nadis and Chakras. Subtle Nadis have connection with the mind. Mind has connection all through the body. You have heard that there is mind in every cell of the body. Prana is the working force of the body. It is dynamic. This static Sakti is affected by Pranayama and other Yogic practices and becomes dynamic. These two functions, static and dynamic, are termed ‘sleeping’ and ‘awakening’ of the Kundalini.

Kundalini : The Sleeping Serpent

                                                            

There are seven energy centres in our body, they correspond to 7 colours of white light and seven regions of our physical body. Each center symbolises a lotus flower with different number of petals, which are actually the vibrations of different sounds. These sounds are the Anahata Nad which can not be spoken but can only be experienced within, Aahat Nad is the one which we hear in the external world. These centers are activated by meditation starting from Mooladhara Chakra to Shasrara Chakra, when the last chakra is opened it is the state of bliss or "Aham Brahnasmi" (I am the creator) which is the state of God. This is the state when we become one with the universe.

To reach this state we have to purify our Ida and Pingala Nadis, by performing few breath exercises then only our Shushumna Nadi gets activated, while doing this practice, energy rises upwards around our spinal cord like a serpent(thats why the name Kundalini) and produce the sounds of different vibrations, as shown in the chart below. Each petal is connected with an organ of our body and vibration of that particular organ is same as of the petal connected, Each lotus flower has Beej Mantra which is a sound of particular vibration, and by activating the chakra that vibration helps curing the organ linked in the case of any disease. These beej mantras are actually the Anahata Nad which are the vibrations within, but still most people utter such mantras from their mouth as told by their Gurujis which is a baseless phenomenon and least effective.

These chakras or energy vibrations also symbolise the story of creation in many prophecies like 7 days of creation in Bible.

Also in Mahabharata Chakravyuh of 7 doors are these chakras of which Abhimanyu failed to open the last one the Sasrara Chakra.

In Ramayana Sanjeevani Booti symbolises the art of becoming one with universe and getting the vibrations of correct frequency as required by the damaged cells need to be cured.

Once again have a look upon the Ten sefirots of Kabbalah in my previous posts, now it may be easier to understand the sefirots, because this is the similar philosophy of Jews.

The Fourth Dimension and Time Travelling

It may be difficult to understand the fourth dimension until you know about the fourth state of matter the plasma or ether (others are solid, liquid and Gas). But I will produce an analogy which will be helpful understanding the Fourth Dimension. But before that let me introduce you to the basic of the fourth dimension.

As you know that we live in 3 dimensional world. How? Because we have 3 dimensions for movement which are:

1.) Left/Right

2.) Back/Forth

3.) Up/Down



Because we have three possible directions, it will take three values to describe the position of any point (x,y,z). In two dimensions, we only need two points: (x,y). In three dimensions, I could tell you to go forward 8 feet, right 12 feet, then you reach a rope. Climb up the rope 6 feet. Notice that each of these three directions are perpendicular to each other... That means that any of the directions is its own and not combined of any of the other directions. That means I can go forward or backward all I want but I won't be going left or right, nor up or down. So if we were to consider a fourth dimension (x,y,z,t), it would have to be a new perpendicular direction in addition to the three directions we have free movement in.

Considering the Fourth Dimension:

Often it is helpful to visualize the way dimensions increase when considering the fourth dimension. Examine the chart on the right. Notice that the zero dimension is represented by a point, 1 dimensions is represented by a line, and 2 dimensions is represented by a square. When we try to express three dimensions on a flat surface, like your computer screen, we draw two squares and diagonal lines connecting the vertices. It represents a cube, but it is not actually a cube. So perhaps when we draw a 4 dimensional cube, we can draw two cubes and connect the diagonal vertices. That figure is called a hypercube. Keep in mind that trying to express a 4 dimensional hypercube on a 2 dimensional surface is not very helpful. But it at least helps you understand the kind of progression going on. Visualizing 4th dimensional objects is not important if you merely want do some simple computations. In other words we can say if we integrate any 3 dimesnional objest from 0 to infinity the system will be called in the fourth dimension.



Using Analogy to understand the 4th dimension:

Since it is hard to try to directly picture the fourth dimension in our minds, perhaps using analogy can help us. In 1884, Edwin Abbot wrote a book called "Flatland". The book writes about A. Square and his world, Flatland. You may have already guessed, but Flatland is a 2 dimensional, flat plane and A. Square is a square shaped guy who lives there. He has two dimensions of free movement. He can go left/right and back/forth, however because he is restricted to his 2 dimensional Flatland plane, he cannot go up/down off the plane. By analogy, we humans are restricted to our "plane" of existence... and it would be impossible for us to freely move in the fourth dimension. Let's go back to A. Square again. Note that A. Square can only see what lies in his plane of existence, which means if a 3 dimensional sphere were to pass through Flatland, A. Square would not see the sphere, but just 2 dimensional "slices". Taking this further, imagine if a sphere passed halfway through Flatland but stopped in the middle. the sphere would intersect Flatland as just one circle and A. Square could see it! Furthermore, imagine if as the sphere approaches Flatland, A. Square watches as the sphere slowly moves through his plane. What would A. Square see? Recall that A. Square can only see 2-d slices of the sphere (or circles) so what A. Square would perceive is a circle suddenly appearing, then growing... then reaching a maximum size as the sphere was halfway through and as it exited, the circle would grow smaller until it disappeared. This means that 3d objects could be explained to a 2d being as a bunch of "slices stacked" on top of each other. Try to imagine taking a bunch of circles and stacking them. They would begin to form a skeleton framework of the actual 3d image. Similarly if a 4d hypersphere would intersect our plane of existence, we would see a 3d sphere appear out of no where. It would grow until the hypersphere was halfway through, then it would shrink back to nothing. Theoretically, we could stack these spheres to form a hypersphere, but we can't stack them in the usual sense, but rather it would have to extend in the fourth dimension which takes us back to the original dilemma of trying to visualize it.

Now let me summarize, you have seen, while in 3 dimensions we can visualize only 2 dimensional plane. For example, you can't see the other side of a coin at single instance of time. But if you have mastered the 4^th dimension probably you can visualize the 3 dimensional spheres. Yes, I mean you can visualize any object from everywhere(up/down, right/left and back/forth) at one instance of time because you are present evrywhere around the object. Quite strange but this is how it is supposed to be. Once again I would like to talk about "Krishna". Krishna as I told in one of my previous article is the center of gravity of any system and of the universe. But he is the center of time too. The Sudarshan chakra in his hand symbolizes the kaalchakra (don't forget time is not linear, time is circular). He witnesses the whole universe at one time as all dimensions are within Him. If we master he 4^th dimension we can be the master our own universe(life) for sure.

Question arises how to master the fourth dimension. Well, if you think this can be the way to time travel, yes it can be. Einstein said if you can travel at the speed of light , you can time travel. Now, our physical body can never travel at the speed of light, but our consciousness can. If with the help of meditation or Yoga we attain the state of "zero" or "timelessness", our consciousness can time travel. Many people believe that when John F Kennedy was killed he was present in the parliament at the same time. Who knows?
